but i am really really trying hard to do so. my goal is to live a more stress free life, to not let things get to me, to be able to let petty things go....but man is it hard.
for instance: the schools here have a uniform dress code, (which i fought against, but to no avail). the kids are only allowed to wear solid polo shirts and dress pants or khakis (and only certain colors, no cargo pants), shirts tucked in for 5th grade and above and belts.
HOWEVER if you are an athlete, or more so on the football team or cheerleading squad, you are not required to follow the same rules as everybody else. These students are allowed to wear their jersey tops, and or cheer jump suits, on home game days, where as everybody else still has to wear their polo tops and dress pants on home game days.
Now, one of the main arguments from the school board for implementing this dress code was because they wanted to stop "cliques" by trying to limit how much the children pair off into groups bases on sports, social status (their families), activities, etc. So tell me this, how is allowing a particular set of children, the athletes, to dress differently achieving this? Basically the school is telling this group of students that they are special, they the same rules do not apply to them as they do to everybody else, and its just not fair. Not all kids can make the football team or the cheer squad....how is this fair to the ones that try out and dont make it, let alone the rest of the student body.
This is simply about sticking by their policies, these dress code policies that they put into place, that they are now not adhering to. Its just not right to give certain children special privledges and not others.
So, now here I am, very bothered by this, but really really trying to not just throw a big "fit". I did email the principal, very nicely, and asked her if they could start allowing the other students to wear school tee shirts on these days so that they are all getting the chance to show their school spririt and not just the athletes,...and I emailed the school board and the superintendent the same request. All I have received is a simple "we'll consider it", but nothing more. I am really trying to let this go, to realize that I cant change everything, no matter how unfair it is....but man oh man has it been hard.
well, at least i vented it a bit...i cant vent it on my myspace because i have teachers as friends and i dont want to upset anyone....but its just not right.
